As I write this, I am in the air, on my way to the Global Angels Farm in Kenya. I feel a renewed excitement with all that is happening at Global Angels both in the UK and in the Tsavo Project.
With several volunteers having Stepped Up to help me in our office, there’s a new buzz of enthusiasm. It feels like we’re finally getting back our fire after the slowdown of the covid years.
Here are some highlights:
Training Excellence | Jackson in Zanzibar
Tsavo Project Manager, Jackson Mwanza, has just returned from Zanzibar having completed the Permaculture Design Certificate course. I am halfway through mine and am really enjoying it. Building relationship with experts in the regenerative agriculture and farming world is helping us with our local strategy. We are working towards our farm becoming a centre for teaching and training regenerative agriculture and sustainability for international and local communities.
Boots on the Ground | Discovery Trip to Tsavo with 13 Volunteers
Sophie Atkinson, from Robert Walters Group, is leading a team of eight staff from different offices around the world, who have won places to join us as volunteers on this year’s Discovery Trip to the Tsavo Project. Photographer and Global Angels Ambassador, Afshin Feiz, is also joining the trip. So much of the outstanding photography we use on our website and media has been captured by Afshin. Sophie and Afshin have been on many trips with us helping make them inspirational and fun. The community and our team love them both.
Global Angels Board member, Steve Bradbury, will also join us for his first trip to the Project along with new friends, David Pinkerton & Sara Moyher-Pinkerton. It’s going to be a great trip and they will all be learning how to make earth bricks, brick water tanks for the community, concrete fence posts and fences, forest gardens, and more.
Finalists in the Corporate Engagement Awards 2023
The Robert Walters Group have been wonderful partners with Global Angels for many years as Corporate Angel Sponsors and in their support of our projects on the ground in the Tsavo Project. We are thrilled that they are finalists in the prestigious Corporate Engagement Awards 2023 due to their outstanding partnership with us. Fingers crossed they win, as they deserve to.
Introducing Earthbags Homes | Sustainable Solution for Families in Rural Kenya
After much research, we are very excited about dome shaped earthbag homes and believe they are one of the most affordable and sustainable solutions for providing homes in the developing world. Because of the way they are constructed the buildings can withstand tornedos, hurricanes, storms, and are warm in winter and cool in summer.
With Jackson being a qualified builder and trainer, after completing the relevant course in December and building several of earth brick dome houses, Global Angels will be well placed to be run our own building courses on our farm.
An example of the type of Earthbag Homes we would love to build for our volunteers and teams to stay in when we visit the Global Angels Farm.
Our dream is to complete our first accommodation for volunteers and teams coming from all over the world to learn about regenerative agriculture and volunteer on projects in the local community.
We have a volunteer team of engineers and an architect working with us to design our first buildings and we’ll send out a message inviting people to join us on the building project in the coming year.
