Global Angels is funding our on-the-ground partners to help the people in crisis, by bringing emergency relief including food, clothing, water, medicine and shelter.
The projects are located on the Thai-Burmese border and work with the Burmese Karen refugees. The hardships faced by these refugees are tremendous, with whole communities hiding in the jungle and living without access to basic resources such as hospitals, medical care, school buildings and roads. The threat of the government soldiers bombing their settlements and mining their rice paddies creates a constant battle for survival.
Recent studies focusing on the region highlighted that:
• 1 in 5 children die before their 5th birthday
• 1 in 12 mothers die in childbirth
• 1/4 of all deaths are attributed to malaria

Global Angels is responding to the overwhelming need by improving essential access to medical care in this remote region. Since2 2011, we have been sponsoring the training of 56 medics from within the refugee communities to man 32 mobile health clinics. These clinics are now treating over 125,000 people every year.
